In this portrait I drew of you, you are reimagined in the kitchen, with a knife in your hand instead of a paintbrush. In this piece, you are a mirror to my own journey as a visual artist and fashion designer who is also using food, cooking and the kitchen as a means of telling stories and connecting with others.
Spending time in your home/kitchen/art studio in Mexico City made me feel like I was home. I could see myself spending the afternoons painting, cooking, preparing to welcome friends and comrades to dine at my table for an evening of spirited, revolutionary, and subversive conversations.
I know I am just scratching the surface of what I am to unearth and create, weaving our histories together as two queer womxn artist from different times and different lands who are not so different. I know there is a connection between my Persian and your Mexican roots and I am on a journey to find and connect those dots thru art, food, stories and design.
